Construction of Kochi WtE project to begin this week

According to the local civic body Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC), construction works for the planned WtE plant in Brahmapuram are to start until 30 May. Even though some contractual details, such as the environmental clearance for the project and the tariff fixation for the generated power at the plant, are not resolved yet, the Kochi Corporation still decided to go ahead in order to put pressure on operating firm GJ Eco Power Pvt Ltd. If everything goes as planned, the facility will be completed by June 2018. At the moment, the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission is still struggling to fix the rate at which power from the plant would be purchased. The scheduled cost for the project add up to INR 295 crore (EUR 40.5 million) and the input capacity should be 96,000 tpd of waste. This was reported by the Times of India.
