Deonar WtE plant approved despite protests

Plans to build a new WtE plant close to the Deonar garbage dump have been approved despite vehement protests. According to The Indian Express, investments for the facility, which should treat up to 3,000 tons of waste daily, are said to amount to about Rs 1,000 crore. According to Samajwadi Party corporator Rais Shaikh, the approval of the plant violates environmental and health standards and therefore should be relocated. Furthermore there is no buffer area.
