The supposed export ban for waste paper to India, as stated in a new EU regulation, is the result of an oversight (an unintentional error) made in a response by the Indian Government.

This has been confirmed to the European Commission by an employee of the Indian embassy, according to a German news report.

EU Regulation 2021/1840 was passed recently, updating regulations for exporting so-called “green list waste” for recovery to non-OECD countries. As further stated in the source, the European Commission now intends to start a corrigendum procedure on the regulation, which should take around six to eight weeks.
