Fund allocated for Kochi waste management projects

An INR 44 crore fund has been provided by the Union Government under Swachh Bharat Mission, for implementation of waste management projects in Kochi. As reported by The Deccan Chronicle, it should be shared between the State Government and the local body. Part of the fund should be used for compensating the viability gap of the proposed WtE plant at Brahmapuram. The Kochi Corporation has to provide INR 2,000 per ton of garbage to G.J Eco Power Pvt. Ltd. This should compensate the difference between the energy production cost and KSEB’s purchase rate of electricity generated from the WtE plant.
