The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) will take over the Indirapuram dumpsite following the exit of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC).
Following the National Green Tribunal’s instructions, the corporation began bioremediation work at the site in October 2020 and has cleared around 100,000MT of waste dumped at the site. The GDA will now be responsible for clearing the remaining 50,000 MT waste, which includes 25,000 fresh waste that was deposited recently. GDA reportedly does not plan to change the agency involved in bioremediation.
Officials estimated that legacy waste at the site weighed around 150,000 metric tonnes, reports Hindustan Times.
