Ghazipur: 64 fire incidents in 5 years, says Ministry

According to data shared in Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, nearly 64 fires were reported from Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill site between 2017 and 2022. The Ghazipur landfill had 31 fire incidents reported in 2017-18, 18 in 2018-19, six in 2019-20 and 2020-21, and three in 2021-22.

According to the MCD, the National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) conducted a study on potential fire causes at the landfill site. The study looked at the risk of potential waste ignition based on the age of the waste and seasonal variations.
