The Great Hyderabad Municipal Commission (GHMC) might soon finalise the formal commissioning of a new 19MW waste-to-energy plant in the Jawaharnagar dump yard.
The GHMC has been already working on the project along with Ramky Enviro. Ever since 130 acres of the site was capped, the remaining space is being used for dumping and processing of waste.
Apart from compost, RDF is being generated. Almost 40% of waste is used for RDF, 20% for compost, and the rest is used for scientific landfilling.
As per state guidelines, in the first phase, the Jawaharnagar site will have a WtE installation to treat 1200 tonnes of waste per day generating 19.8 MW of energy each day. In the second phase, it is expected to increase the capacity to another 1200 tonnes generating 28 MW per day. The power is connected to the Malkaram Substation, as per Telangana Today.
Mr Masood Mallick, Jt MD, Ramky Enviro told SolidWasteIndia, “Ramky is currently investing heavily in waste management facilities across India. With this additional WtE project in Hyderabad, we are aiming to transform ourselves into an organization, which is not deploying yesterday’s technology. We are deploying tomorrow’s technology everywhere. We want waste management in India to be seen, felt, and perceived on the basis of global best practice. We will demonstrate how this can be done.”
