GMWC to set up new WtE plant in Verna

According to the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GMWC), plans provide to develop a new WtE plant in Verna, which is a village in Salcete, Goa.

The plant should be set up in Verna at an estimated cost of INR 5 billion (EUR 62.77 million) generating electricity and steam from non-biodegradable waste. It is expected to produce 16 MWe and 38 MWt, by processing 250 tpd of waste.

As further reported, an environment impact study for the project has already been conducted. GWMC is applying for environmental clearance to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).

The plant is seen as the fourth waste treatment plant in Goa and should accept waste from Mormugao taluka and from some parts of Salcete taluka.
