The Goa state government is seeking funding from the Government of India for the WtE project by Goa Waste Management Corporation (GMWC).

Reportedly, Goa is seeking INR 1.5 billion (EUR 18.82 million) from the Centre as so-called Viability Gap funding (VGF). As further reported, financial help is needed because the plant may not be financially viable due to Goa’s low power tariff.

GMWC plans to set up a WtE plant in Verna, which is a village in Salcete. The plant worth INR 5 billion (EUR 62.77 million) should be generating 16 MWe and 38 MWt from 250 tpd of non-biodegradable waste. GWMC is currently applying for environmental clearance to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).
