Goa to set up biomass briquetting project

Biomass briquette (for representational purpose only)

The Goa government is setting up a biomass-based renewable energy project to reduce open dumping and burning of agricultural waste.

The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Ltd (PRESPL) will jointly set up the briquetting project in Saligao, Goa. The project will have a processing capacity of 2,000 kg per hour. PRESPL will be using trees, coconut leaves, and other biomass in the region. The project will be set up under a design, build, operate, finance, and transfer basis for ten years reports The Times of India.

Biomass in Goa currently remains underutilized and briquettes are sourced from other states.
