Goa will have a new hazardous waste management facility in Pissurlem industrial estate (near Valpoi) ready by December 2020, in time to meet the deadline set by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
As per the NGT order, if Goa, which is categorised under the smaller states category, fails to set up the facility by December 2020, the state will have to pay a penalty of Rs 10 lakh every month from January 2021.
Navhind Times reports that Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has allotted land on lease to Goa Industrial Environment Management Association (GIEMA), which in turn has appointed M/s SMS Envocare Limited, to set up the common hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility in the Pissurlem industrial estate.
