Government defines ambitious renewable energy capacity goals

According to Bioenergy Insight, the Indian government has set the goal to generate 16,725 MW of renewable energy in the fiscal year 2016/17, which goes from April to March. Biomass is expected to provide 500 MW of capacity. For the fiscal year 2017/18, India increases the total capacity goal to 20,450 MW, 700 MW of which will come from biomass. By 2022, India has set the goal to add 175,000 MW of renewable energy capacity.
