Government to auction coal mines

The Indian government announced plans to auction 23 coal mines in fiscal year 2018. Out of those 23 coal mines, 4 are reserved for commercial mining. This was reported by the Business Standard. The exact number of mines that will be used to supply coal for power generation was not stated. In the past, coal has been mined by state-owned monopoly firm Coal India.
