As was confirmed by several state officials, India will implement new Goods and Service Tax (GST) rates for the renewable energy sector, starting on 1 July 2017. The solar, the bioenergy and the WtE sector will all be affected by a 5% tax rate on goods such as WtE facilities, wind turbines etc. Contrary to this, there were rumours about a new tax rate as high as 16 to 18% for solar cells and modules last week, but this has been denied by India’s Revenue Secretary in the meantime. This was reported by German news source Sonne Wind & Wärme.
