India’s National Green Tribunal has directed the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida authority) to build a WtE plant within the next 6 months, to be located in Sector 123 Okhla, New Delhi. As further ordered by the Panel, which is the green court of India, the Noida authority must end landfilling and shift all the waste from the landfill site in Sector 138A. Background to the court order is a petition filed by a local citizen on 24 August 2017 regarding illegal landfilling. Lexology, however, does not comment on the scope of the possible plant or the technology that could be used. According to the source, the Okhla area generates around 660 metric tons of solid waste per day.
