India is currently generating about 66 MW of electricity from municipal solid waste (MSW) daily. According to Energy Infra Post, the country hopes to increase this figure to 676 MW soon. Presently, the country has 5 operating Waste-to-Energy projects in Solapur, Jabalpur and New Delhi, which together process 4,516 ton of MSW per day. Meanwhile, the country is in the process of setting up another 48 Waste-to-Energy projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) that would generate 412 MW of electricity, once completed.
