‘India has the potential to deal with COVID-19 waste’

Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd. (REEL) is one of India’s largest full-service waste management companies. In the last 25 years, REEL has expanded its operations to include all types of waste – hazardous, municipal, bio-medical, construction, and e-waste. Based in Hyderabad, Ramky is also involved in recycling waste-water, paper and plastic in India and several Asian countries.

In an exclusive video interview with SolidWasteIndia.com, Mr. Masood Mallick, Joint Managing Director – REEL discusses a range of issues confronting the Indian waste-sector in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as Ramky’s future projects.

WASTE MANAGEMENT DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Following the coronavirus lockdown, REEL announced a slew of measures including additional benefits to its over 20,000 frontline staff and workers, such as insurance and additional allowances. The company also ran a public awareness campaign titled #OutThereForYou as a tribute to its frontline workers.

Regarding the impact of the pandemic on waste treatment, Mr. Mallick is convinced that India has the infrastructure to deal with large amounts of hazardous COVID-19 waste. In the first part of the interview (below), we ask the following questions:
