Jaypee Group has moved court against the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s (MC) takeover of the Dadumajra garbage processing plant, and sought restoration of the possession. Taking note of the plea, the HC has put the civic body on notice, demanding a response by June 24, the Hindustan Times reports.
On Friday, the MC took possession of the controversial plant despite a court order earlier that day staying the takeover for a month. Jaypee alleged its staff was forcibly pushed out of the plant, though MC maintains that the order was not conveyed to it in time.
The plant has been running much below its full capacity for many years leading to dumping of garbage in the open in Dadumajra. In March this year, the MC General House had terminated its contract with Japyee and the civic body had issued a termination notice, asking the firm to hand over the plant within a week. In response, the firm moved court that ordered a stay for three months on March 12.
After it lapsed on June 12, MC took over the plant on Friday. MC commissioner KK Yadav has said they will be taking legal view on Monday, and proceed accordingly.
