Long delay for Deonar WtE plant seems likely

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, the implementation of the planned WtE plant in the district Deonar is likely to take 3 years. MC’S plan is to treat around 3,000 tpd at the facility, while producing 25-30 MW of energy. It is aimed at a lifespan of at least 25 years for the plant. According to the Bombay High Court the city is not allowed to bury waste at the landfills of Deonar and Mulund from June this year. At current it is not clear how waste management in the district shall work in the meantime, as was reported by The Hindustan Times.
