The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to stop using 200 solid waste collection stations throughout the city. To enhance its ranking in the City Sanitation Index, the LMC will either build underground solid waste transfer stations or install compactors at these locations. Furthermore, waste-dumping lands will be cleared.
In recent days, LMC has made several efforts to up its rankings, including door-to-door waste collection. Hindustan Times reports that 41 of the 300 open dumping points have been transformed into mechanised transfer stations, including 47 PCTS machines. Last year, 151 GPS-equipped trash transport vans were inducted to deliver waste to Shivri’s solid waste treatment plant. In commercial and market areas, LMC has erected twin bins.
