Maharashtra generated highest biomedical waste volume in one year

Maharashtra generated the highest volume of biomedical waste (BMW) in the country between June 2020 and June 2021, according to a recent document submitted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in Lok Sabha.

The state generated 8,317 tonnes of BMW, as compared to the previous year 2019-20, when only 62.3 tonnes of BMW were generated.

According to the report, India generated 56,898.4 tonnes of COVID-19 BMW between June 2020 and June 2021. Kerala (6,442 tonnes), Gujarat (5,004), Tamil Nadu (4,835), Delhi (3,995), Uttar Pradesh (3,881) and Karnataka (3,133) were the other leading states in terms of BMW generation, reports The Indian Express.
