The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation has officially closed down the Aadharwadi dumping ground near Mumbai as part of its “Zero Garbage Initiative”.

The legacy waste at the 37-year-old site will be bioremediated, according to civic body officials, and a public recreation space will be created there instead. The Aadharwadi dumping ground is spread over six acres and used to receive 650 TPD waste from the area.

Henceforth, waste will be sent to a treatment and processing centre at Umbarde and Barave which have a capacity of 350 TPD and 200 MTD respectively, reports The Free Press Journal.
