As reported by The Times of India, India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered the Noida Authority to build and make functional a waste-to-energy plant in Sector 123 of Noida, state of Uttar Pradesh near New-Delhi, within the next six months. The order came days after the green court had banned dumping of garbage on the vacant plot in Sector 138A in Noida. The Noida Authority had been using this plot for the past year to illegally dispose of waste. Noida generates close to 700 metric tonnes of solid waste on a daily basis. The 40-year-old city still does not have an organised and functional solid waste disposal and recycling system.
