As reported by The Times of India, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has ordered the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to purchase electricity produced by a WtE gasification plant operated by company Elephant Energy Pvt Ltd (EEPL). According to DERC, NDMC is duty-bound to buy the facility’s electricity under its renewable energy obligations. EEPL’s facility was said to be a 70 tpd hybrid gasification WtE plant with a generation capacity of 1.7 MWel. NDMC had awarded a waste concession to EEPL, but not a power purchase agreement (PPA), causing the plant to lie idle.
