NGT increases pressure on Delhi authorities

According to The Hindu, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi Chief Secretary and the Lieutenant-Governor to set up a meeting to determine an alternative site for a landfill site and also locate a site to set up a Waste-to-Energy plant in the Indian capital. It furthermore said that reports on the Waste-to-Energy plant site and the landfill site should be made available within 2 weeks. The landfill site’s maximum capacity is being exceeded, with garbage now reaching 65 metre as opposed to the 20 metres landfill standard. In order to intensify its directive, NGT has put a ban on authorities awarding commercial projects until the issue of waste management is sorted.
