The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will receive funds of INR 3.08 billion (USD 46.1 million) by the Maharshtra state government to finance its waste management plan, which includes WtE implementation. This comes after India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) pressured Nagpur to improve its waste disposal. NMC has already shortlisted company Smart Utilities (SU), a subsidiary of Essel Group, to develop the WtE plant, which is planned to be operating in 2020. SU stated that technology will be based on the process installed at the Jabalpur WtE plant. This was reported by The Times of India.
