An agreement has been signed by the the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to procure 20 tonnes of plastic waste daily from the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and use it to generate 400 kilowatts of electricity.

At present, the GNIDA has one waste remediation plant in the Lakhnawali area of Greater Noida where garbage is segregated. Of the total garbage collected daily, 50 per cent is domestic waste, which is used for making compost, the GNIDA said in a statement. Half of remaining garbage is processed and used in construction work or at land filling sites, while the rest is the leftover plastic waste, for which the GNIDA was looking for a buyer, according to a report on MoneyControl.com.
