The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has received administrative approval for an INR 12.56 crore project to upgrade its Pachchanady solid waste management plant. According to www.thehindu.com, the project entails the installation of two pre-sorting machines, two manual segregation units, two hydraulic machines to extract leachate from wet waste and six rotating cylindrical sieves. However, 20% of the funds will go towards other projects such as dry waste collection centres in the city or sanitary napkin incinerators at public toilets. According to the source, the MCC has to engage in a bidding procedure to find a company to take up the project.
