PIL against Chandigarh civic body regarding Dadumajra dumpsite

A notice has been issued to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation by the Punjab and Haryana high court following a public interest litigation (PIL). The PIL has been filed by city resident seeking over air pollution suffered by living in an around Dadumajra, where illnesses like pneumonia are rampant.

The PIL seeks directions to the MC and other state authorities to ensure an end to the air pollution, stench, and frequent fires that release toxins in the air, reports The Hindustan Times. The petitioner has also sought directions to the MC to follow the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, reduce the quantum of waste dumped at Dadumajra, and urged the High Court to order an inquiry into the MC’s failure to follow the National Green Tribunal’s directions on SWM.
