Plans for WtE gasification plant in Kozhikode

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) intends to develop a 5 MW WtE gasification plant in Kozhikode, Kerala, for which it will provide the land. The corporation first proposed the project in 2017, but failed to realise it due to financial bottlenecks. Interested companies may join the project by investing about EUR 31.4 million (RS 250 crore). However, at a pre-bid meeting, potential bidders criticised the inclusion of waste collection in the tender without allowing to raise a collection fee as impractical. Furthermore, the state corporation did not give any information on the waste and its calorific value and expects the bidders to conduct studies on their own. Also, bidders stated that only a capacity of 4 MW generated from 300 tpd is possible, so the demanded 5 MW from 200 tpd were dropped. Further modalities shall be set before 31 August.
