The Pune Municipal Corporation has reportedly been dumping waste at an unauthorised area near its sanitary landfill in Ramtekdi since the last few days.
Recently, the PMC had given an undertaking to Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) that it won’t dump unprocessed waste in the open in return for the permission for bio-mining of its garbage.
However, the PMC has allegedly dumped 500 tonnes of waste so far, at the site which is barely 100 meters away from Ramtekdi
Sanjay Gawade, deputy commissioner and head of solid waste management department of PMC informed Pune Mirror, “It is true that we are dumping the waste at a site near Ramtekdi, but it is only a temporary arrangement since issues have cropped up at other trash plants in the city. Once the waste here is stabilised by spraying chemicals, it will be lifted from the site.”
