The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced it will implement the SWM Rules 2016 strictly once again. Rules were relaxed since March owing to a sharp rises in cases during the second wave of the COVID pandemic.
All societies generating over 100 kg of wet waste will have to manage it within the society or appoint an agency if they lack space, civic officials informed The Times of India. Societies or establishments that do not follow the SWM Rules will have to pay Rs 5000. The fine can increase up to Rs 15,000 in case of repeated violations.
Pune has been grappling with successfully managing its waste following its failure to tackle waste at the Uruli Devachi landfill, among other things.
