The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to set up a 200MT waste processing plant for the 23 villages recently included in the PMC urban agglomeration.

The PMC will receive Rs 200 crore from the state government for setting up the plant. With the PMC taking over the villages, the zilla parishad has withdrawn from collecting and disposing waste. This had led to accumulation of waste and the PMC has announced immediate action, reports Hindustan Times. As per the PMC’s estimate, around 200MT of waste is generated each day in larger villages like Manjari, Wagholi, Shivane and Ambegaon.
