Following a petition by local residents claiming violations in dumping of waste at the Jawaharnagar dumpsite by waste management firm Ramky Enviro Engineers, the National Green Tribunal has asked the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to file separate reports on the matter. The two organisations have been asked to submit their reports by October 8.
The petitioners have claimed that the regulators are not seriously implementing the SWM Rules of 2016. Failure to take corrective action can lead to environmental problems, they have stated. The petitioners have asked the NGT to direct the SPCB and CPCB to monitor the implementation of SWM Rules by the TSPCB.
They have also demanded that dumping activities be shifted from Jawaharnagar.
