The Jammu and Kashmir administration was criticized by the Supreme Court for the improper dumping and disposal of solid waste, stating that it could not risk the lives of the populace.
“Is it how you handle situations? Is it your State’s consciousness? You cannot tamper with people’s life. Pay the fine in full, the bench stated while rejecting the local body’s appeal.
The civic body’s attorney claimed that the fee was imposed despite the new dumping site being ready. He said that the local council has implemented corrective measures for the management of solid waste scientifically.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council of Bandipora, Kashmir, had appealed a decision to the top court, The Hindu.
The pollution control committee had found that the solid waste was being continuously dumped at Zalwan Nassu site in close proximity of the district headquarters Bandipora and on the catchment of Wullar lake near Zalwan Nallah in a haphazard and unscientific manner by the municipal committee.
