Smart city’s initiative to also fund waste infrastructure

Seven municipalities have been selected by Uttar Pradesh’s government to be part of the smart city mission. Under this programme, a grant of INR 2.5 billion should be awarded to each of the participating municipalities, as well as a yearly fund of INR 500 million. This funding should be invested in several infrastructure projects, including solid waste management facilities. As was reported by The Hindustan Times, the selected municipalities are Ghaziabad, Meerut, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura-Vrindavan, Firozabad and Shahjahanpur.
