Goa’s new Minister for waste management Mr Atanasio Monserrate has said that a comprehensive waste management project will be functional at Sonsoddo within the next 12-18 months.

Sharing a few details about the roadmap for Sonsoddo, Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC’s) managing director Levinson Martins said the Sonsoddo plant will be similar to the SWM plant at Saligao where wet waste is scientifically treated.

Most of the legacy dump will be bio-remediated by the GWMC before monsoon begins. After that, two bio-digesters of 25 tpd capacity will be set up on the 3,000 sqm site.

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) will continue treating fresh waste inside the plant using the windrows composting method until a comprehensive plan is in place, reports The Times of India.
