The Pollution Control Board (PCB) is investigating illegal plastic recycling businesses in Hyderabad. The Telangana PCB has ordered the closure of two plants on the outskirts of Hyderabad. More units are also being investigated since they are operating without permission.

The PCB took action after homeowners filed a complaint alleging that the industry was polluting the neighbourhood. The PCB’s Consent for Establishment and Consent for Operation were not obtained before the unit was set up.

The recycling centre is 100 metres away from the residential area. It consumes a lot of water to wash waste plastics and discharges untreated effluents outside the factory, polluting ground water.

Another illegal recycling company was ordered to close by the PCB last month.
