Thiruvananthapuram civic body approves user free of Rs 800

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council has approved a monthly user fee of Rs 800 to be charged from each household for managing waste. Daily collection of waste from households will be resumed in the city and community facilities will be set up in coastal areas and some low-income housing colonies.

The Times of India reports that in 2017, the civic body had pitched slab-based user fee for waste management but was forced to withdraw since an amount of Rs 800 was deemed a bit too high. The user fee was fixed at Rs 250, per month for collection of recyclable waste and maintenance of kitchen bins had to be slashed to Rs 200.
