Thiruvananthapuram to revive 10 small-scale biogas plants

The city corporation of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has announced plans to restore 10 small-scale currently dysfunctional community biogas plants. The plants are dysfunctional for several reasons, mainly due to a lack of proper operation, e.g. overloading. Many of them, e.g. the plant at Palayam market, were turned into a dumping yard for waste. A 1.5 tpd unit at Kazhakkoottam and another one in Sree Chithra were overloaded. A 1.2 tpd plant at Sreekanteswaram park was unable to work properly due to insufficient quantity of waste. New units are planned to be built in Kazhakoottam, Chanthavila, Kattayikkonam, Nettayam, Thirumala, Poojappura, Punnakkamugal, Vettukad, Kadakampally and Pettah, according to The Times of India.
