Update on Ahmedabad project

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which represents the local government of Ahmedabad, Indian State of Gujarat, has stated that they seek to construct a new WtE facility in Pirana. The new WtE plant should be constructed directly at a landfill and should have an energy production capacity of 14.9MW, according to The Times of India. For this purpose, the AMC has already signed a contract with the energy company Abellon Clean Energy Limited and with Gujarat’s power company Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL). The latter will purchase the power that is to be produced at the WtE facility in the future. A power purchase agreement was signed between GUVNL and Abellon Clean Energy Limited on January 1st, 2018. The new facility is expected to be commissioned by March 2020 and will treat around 320,000tpy of waste. Project costs are estimated to amount to around EUR 34.47 million.
