According to government officials, around 15 private companies have already expressed their interest in the Noida WtE project. The local bodies already reviewed those applications until 7 October 2017 and are still in the process of choosing one of those applicants. Under the Noida WtE project, the local government plans to set up a new WtE plant to unburden the old Astoli landfill, which has long since reached its maximum capacity. The WtE facility is said to come up in Sector 123 of Noida, rather than directly at the old Astoli landfill. The new WtE facility is expected to treat both municipal solid waste and construction waste.
