USD 111 million upgrade at Alang-Sosiya ship recycling yards

As Waste Management World reports, the Alang-Sosiya ship recycling yards will be upgraded with an investment of about USD 111 million. The Government of India and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a deal determining the upgrade. In total, the project will cost about USD 111 million, USD 76 of which will be provided by a soft loan from JICA. The upgrade aims to prepare the yard to meet international safety and environmental regulations and attract more companies to the recycling plants in Alang. Construction works will be performed by the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and are scheduled to be completed in 2022.
