A wall located at the back of the Solid Waste Management Treatment Plant at Sonsodo, Goa collapsed on the weekend. The weight of the waste inside the plant, put pressure against the wall, caused the accident. No one was injured, reports The Herald.

A total of 1,200 metric tonnes of treated garbage spilleg d onto the ground and is being collected by a JCB machine.

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) will soon take a decision regarding the repair work of this wall and other measures.

On March 4, the external structure had suffered damages in a fire outside the plant. Waste treatment has been progressing at a slow pace and the MMC hopes to remove the waste that is inside the plant and to see if it can be placed at the legacy dump site.
