West Bengal responds to NGT’s rap for poor SWM

West Bengal’s Environment Minister Manas Bhunia has announced that the state government will establish a nodal committee in each district to monitor pollution control measures and waste management efforts.

Members of the panel would also meet once a week to discuss the results, reports The Print.

In response to a question about whether the steps were necessary in light of the National Green Tribunal’s recent imposition of a Rs 3,500 crore fine on Bengal for “failure” to manage waste, Bhunia said the green bench’s observations were being reviewed by Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi and other top officials.
