Work begins on new waste to energy plant in Kochi

GJ Eco Power Pvt Ltd has started work on the much-delayed waste-to-energy plant in Kochi after receiving the last in a series of building approvals a few days ago.

The first phase of the project aims at generating power from refuse derived fuel (RDF) pellets and will be operational by January 2021. The second phase will focus on power generation through a gasification plant and will be completed six months after the completion of the first phase.

The Times of India reports that the project, announced in 2015, had been stuck due to various controversies and lack of various clearances.
