Alternative plans proposed for Chennai AD plant

The City Corporation of Chennai has proposed a 50 tpd biogas plant in a central location in the city to process waste from the Hotels Association. The biogas produced will be liquefied and bottled as bio-CNG, and sold back to the hotels. The “Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group” (CAG) has raised concerns about the plan, such as the high cost for bottling equipment and the location. As reported by The New Indian Express, he group has proposed alternative plans at a decentralised location, which would reduce waste transportation cost. The biogas could be directly supplied to private customers.
