BBMP wants to insure waste plants

As reported by The Hindu, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), a civic body of the Greater Bangalore metropolitan area, is seeking an insurance company for its landfills and waste processing plants. Background to this is a growing opposition from citizens living in the vicinity, which has in some cases also led to damages at the respective sites. The proposal, which is still in preliminary stages, predominantly aims at insuring the equipment and machinery of 6 new processing units that were opened 6 months ago. According to a BBMP Special Commissioner, the insurance matter was being negotiated with plant developers early on.
