BMC seeks feasibility study for Deonar project

According to DNA India, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) currently plans to appoint Tata Consulting Engineers Limited for carrying out a feasibility study for the WtE project at the landfill site in Deonar, a suburb of Mumbai, Maharashtra. The appointment will need to receive approval from BMC’s 26-member Standing Committee. Reportedly, the consultancy should get INR 5.6 million (USD 125,000) from BMC. Opposition parties are raising concerns over the low calorific value of the waste at the Deonar dumping ground. However, according to a municipal commissioner, the technology to be used should cope with this difficulties. As further stated by the official, this holds true despite the projects started in Thane, Jalgaon and Nagpur that were described as not really successful.
