A new 5 t/d biogas plant is due to start operations in Rajkot, Gujarat, on 23rd March. Building works are completed and testing period has already been finalized. The facility had been developed by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), together with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). As reported by The Times of India, the plant worth INR 11 million (EUR 155,959) should be able to produce 300 units of electricity per day, processing 5 t/d of kitchen waste and cow dung. RMC plans to build another two similar units to be located in the west and central zone. According to RMC, Rajkot is currently generating around 550 t/d of municipal solid waste.
